THE West Africa Examination Council has extended the registration for its private West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination to February 5 , 2021 .
The notice was contained in a short statement signed by Head, Public Affairs , WAEC, Mr Demianus Ojijeogu , titled, ‘ WASSCE For Private Candidates , 2021 – First Series : Extension of Registration Period ’ .
“ This is to inform intending candidates for the above examination that registration initially set to close today has been extended to Friday, February 5 , 2021 . ”
The President , Major General Muhammadu Buhari ( retd . ), has failed to summon a meeting of the Nigeria Police Council for the past 21 months despite the rising insecurity in the country.
Investigations by news correspondent indicated that the last time the council met was on May 23 , 2019 , when it confirmed the appointment of Abubakar Adamu as the substantive Inspector – General of Police at the Presidential Villa , Abuja .
The President had on January 15 , 2019 , appointed Adamu as acting IGP following the retirement of IGP Ibrahim Idris .
Adamu ’ s appointment was ratified in May by the council members , comprising the President who is the chairman , all state governors , Minister of Interior, Chairman of the Police Service Commission , and the Permanent Secretary of the commission .
Though Adamu is expected to leave the office today , having reached the mandatory retirement age , the silence from the Presidency and failure of the council to meet are giving confusing signals in the police .
News correspondent had earlier reported moves by Adamu to secure tenure extension to enable him to complete the ongoing reforms in the police .
The silence from the Presidency and the inability of the police council to meet and appoint Adamu ’ s successor is strengthening rumours that the President may have approved additional months in office for him .
Buhari had granted the privilege to the immediate past Commandant -General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Muhammadu Gana, the service chiefs who overstayed in office by five years and the Comptroller – General of Immigration , Muhammad Babandede .
Meanwhile , the President did not summon a meeting of the Nigeria Police Council to deliberate security challenge confronting the country.
Under the IG , the country recorded an increase in mass abductions , including the kidnapping of over 333 students of the Government Science School , Kankara , Katsina State , by suspected bandits ; rise in banditry and killings in Zamfara , Katsina , Niger and Kaduna states and the killings by hoodlums last October during the # EndSARS protests.
The inability of the security system to manage the security crises across the country led to the creation of the Western Nigeria Security Network codenamed Amotekun and the planned establishment of a security group by the South- East governors .
The Oyo State Government has announced that there would be total restriction of human and vehicular movements during the monthly environmental sanitation exercise holding on Saturday.
The restriction of movement , according to a statement signed and made available to journalists by the Commissioner, Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, Dr . Abdulateef Oyeleke , would , however , not affect those on essential duties , including health workers , journalists , and the law enforcement agents.
The statement , which indicated that the exercise would hold between 6 am and 9 am on Saturday, warned against the violation of the environmental sanitation law as deviants would face severe penalties .
It read , “ There shall be total restriction of both vehicular and human movement except for those on essential duties . ”
It directs chairmen of Local Government and Local Council Development Areas in the state to ensure compliance in their respective domains as it is expected that citizens utilize the period to clean their surroundings .
The release further directs all directors of Environmental Health Services in the 33 Local Governments and 35 Local Council Development Areas within the state to monitor the exercise as a matter of duty .
The statement , therefore , enjoined shop owners , market men and women , security operatives, Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria , Tricycle Owners and Operators Association of Nigeria , the Association of Commercial Motorcycle Riders of Nigeria and the general public to comply with this directive .
The President , Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd . ) , has assured the newly appointed service chiefs of his prayers as they lead the fight against terrorism, especially in Nigeria ’ s North – Eastern states of Borno , Yobe and Adamawa .
He also advised the service chiefs to give responsibilities to trusted hands , while charging them to be loyal and patriotic .
The Special Adviser to President on Media and Publicity , Femi Adesina , stated this in a piece titled, ‘ Inside PMB ’ s First Meeting With New Service Chiefs ’ .
Adesina said the President assured the new service chiefs of his prayers and support, adding that “ victory comes from the divine powers ” .
“ In terms of equipment and other logistics , we are doing our best , and will do more. Give officers you can trust command , and support them. Respect seniority and intellectualism , but also use people who can deliver , those who show courage and leadership qualities .
“ I will be praying for you . I assure you of that . ”
The Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria has demanded an upward review of the retirement age of health workers from 60 to 65 .
The union stated that the approval of the new retirement age of 65 for teachers by the Federal Government should also be extended to the health personnel in the country.
The MHWUN President , Dr Biobelemonye Josiah , said this at the 9 th quadrennial state delegates conference 2021 which held in Abuja .
Josiah , who was represented by the union ’ s deputy president , Kabir Minjibir , also re – echoed his call for the implementation of the upward review of the Consolidated Health Salary Structure for health workers as done for the medical doctors .
The MHWUN President said , “ For the same reasons that informed government ’ s timely approval of a new retirement age for teachers , an extension of such gesture to health professionals shall ensure the harnessing of their experience .
“ Our demand for the review of our retirement age from 60 to 65 cannot therefore be better appreciated than the experience in the current circumstances. ”
The Police Service Commission has approved the promotion of nine Commissioners of Police to Assistant Inspector – General of Police .
It also elevated nine Deputy CPs to CP and 20 , 356 officers who were promoted to their next ranks .
This was contained in a statement by the PSC spokesman , Ikechukwu Ani , titled, ‘ PSC promotes 20 , 356, nine CPs to AIG and nine DCPs to CP. ’
The promotion was one of the decisions of the 11 th plenary meeting of the commission held in Abuja on Wednesday , and presided over by its Chairman , Musiliu Smith , a retired Inspector – General of Police .
The new AIGs are : Aminu Pai , former Commissioner of Police Kwara and Bayelsa States Command , former Force Quarter Master General and currently the Executive Secretary , Police Multi – purpose Cooperative Society , Lagos ; Dasuki Galadanchi , former Commissioner of Police /Executive Secretary, Police Multi -purpose Cooperative Society , Lagos and presently acting AIG, Force CID Annex , Lagos ; Okon Ene , former Commissioner of Police Benue and Abia State Commands , CP SARS and currently CP Explosive Ordinance Disposal , Force Headquarters and Abang John , former Commissioner of Police Akwa Ibom State Command and presently Commissioner of Police Anambra State Command .
National Assembly Others are Joseph Mukan , former CP, Airport Command , Lagos and currently CP Rivers State ; Aji Ali Janga , former CP Kaduna and Kogi State Commands and currently CP Sokoto ; Mukaddas Garba , presently CP Benue State Command ; Habu Ahmadu , former CP, IGP Monitoring Unit; CP Intelligence , Force Headquarters and CP Bauchi State Command and presently CP Kano State and Imohimi D. The commission also approved the promotion of three Chief Superintendents to Assistant Commissioner of Police , 1 , 5177 Deputy Superintendents to Superintendents of Police and 2 , 293 Assistant Superintendents to DSP .
It also approved the confirmation of 7 , 283 unconfirmed ASP II to ASPI , 9 , 072 Inspectors to ASPII and promoted 110 Inspectors to Senior Inspectors .
The three Chief Superintendents of Police promoted to ACP are Gotom Richard, Joseph Kaide and Giade Abubakar .
“ Chairman of the commission called on the newly promoted officers to see their new positions as a call to more commitment to duty, ” the statement said .
The President , Major General Muhammadu Buhari ( retd . ), has finally appointed new service chiefs for the country.
The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity , Femi Adesina , disclosed this in a statement titled, ‘ President Buhari appoints new service chiefs ’ .
It read , “ President Muhammadu Buhari has accepted the immediate resignation of the Service Chiefs , and their retirement from service .
“ Those involved are the Chief of Defence Staff , General Abayomi Olonisakin ; Chief of Army Staff , Lt -Gen. Tukur Buratai ; Chief of Naval Staff , Vice Admiral Ibok Ekwe Ibas ; and Chief of Air Staff , Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar .
“ President Buhari thanks the outgoing Service Chiefs for what he calls their ‘ overwhelming achievements in our efforts at bringing enduring peace to our dear country, ’ wishing them well in their future endeavours .
“ The new Service Chiefs are : Major -General Leo Irabor , Chief of Defence Staff ; Major – General I . Attahiru , Chief of Army Staff ; Rear Admiral A. Z Gambo , Chief of Naval Staff ; and Air -Vice Marshal I . O Amao , Chief of Air Staff .
“ The President congratulates the new Service Chiefs , and urges them to be loyal and dedicated in the discharge of their responsibilities. ”
The President , Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd . ) , has sacked the service chiefs in the country with immediate effect .
He also appointed new hands to take over the batons of piloting the security affairs of the country.
Special Adviser On Media and Publicity to the President , Femi Adesina , made this known in a tweet .
Adesina wrote , “ PMB appoints new Service Chiefs . Maj Gen LEO Irabor , CDS (Chief of Defence Staff ), Maj Gen I Attahiru , Army, Rear Adm AZ Gambo , Navy , AVM IO Amao , Air Force .
“ He ( Buhari ) congratulates outgoing Service Chiefs on efforts to bring enduring peace to the country. ”
The outgoing service chiefs are General Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin ( Chief of Defence Staff ); Lt . Gen. Tukur Buratai (Chief of Army Staff ); Vice Admiral Ibok Ibas ( Chief of Naval Staff ); and Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar ( Chief of Air Staff ) .
The move by the President comes after several demands by Nigerians that the President replace the service chiefs and rejig Nigeria ’ s military apparatus to effectively combat the security challenges confronting the nation in recent times .
Following requests by candidates to be given more time to complete the registration process for the 2020 SSCE ( External ), the National Examinations Council has fixed new dates for the examination.
In a statement by the Head, Information and Public Relations Division , Azeez Sani , the Council noted that the examination which was earlier scheduled to commence on Monday , February 1 , 2021 , and end on Wednesday , March 3 , 2021 , will now start on Monday , February 8 , 2021 , and end on Wednesday , March 10 , 2021 .
The Council also informed the set of candidates who missed some papers during the 2020 SSCE (Internal ) due to the EndSARS protests in some states to take note of these new dates and report for the examination accordingly at their various examination centres to be designated .
