The Force Public Relations Officer, Mr Frank Mba, disclosed this in a statement, in Abuja.
“The Force wishes to emphasise that there is no plan whatsoever to bring back the disbanded SARS. SARS is gone for good and will not resurrect under any guise whatsoever,” he said.
He said that the Nigerian Police had re-organised the operational structure of the squad to fill the vacuum created by its disbandment, as the leadership of the Force remained focused on efforts at deepening reforms within the Force.
Mba said the idea was to bequeath Nigerians, a Police Force that would be more effective, efficient, technology driven, humane and rule of law compliant.
The FPRO urged the public to disregard the report, saying that it was deliberately intended to misinform the public.
While presenting the budget, Buhari said, “Defence and internal security will continue to be our top priority. We remain firmly committed to the security of life, property and investment nationwide. We will continue to ensure that our gallant men and women in the armed forces, police and paramilitary units are properly equipped, remunerated and well-motivated.
“The 2022 budget is also the first in our history, where MDAs were clearly advised on gender responsive budgeting. These are part of critical steps in our efforts to distribute resources fairly and reach vulnerable groups of our society.
“Distinguished Members of the National Assembly, the 2022 to 2024 Medium Term Expenditure Framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper sets out the parameters for the 2022 Budget as follows:
“Conservative oil price benchmark of 57 US Dollars per barrel;
“Daily oil production estimate of 1.88 million barrels (inclusive of Condensates of 300,000 to 400,000 barrels per day); Exchange rate of four 410.15 per US Dollar; and projected GDP growth rate of 4.2 percent and 13 percent inflation rate.
“Based on these fiscal assumptions and parameters, total federally-collectible revenue is estimated at 17.70 trillion Naira in 2022.
“Total federally distributable revenue is estimated at 12.72 trillion Naira in 2022 while total revenue available to fund the 2022 Federal Budget is estimated at 10.13 trillion Naira. This includes Grants and Aid of 63.38 billion Naira, as well as the revenues of 63 Government-Owned Enterprises.
“Oil revenue is projected at 3.16 trillion, Non-oil taxes are estimated at 2.13 trillion Naira and FGN Independent revenues are projected to be 1.82 trillion Naira.
” A total expenditure of sixteen point three-nine (16.39) trillion Naira is proposed for the Federal Government in 2022.or the economies to survive and thrive
The Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Mrs. Zainab Ahmed, who made this known in a chat with newsmen at the end of the weekly virtual Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari at the State House, Abuja also disclosed that FEC approved the proposed 2022 Budget of N16.39 trillion.
She said: “If we just depend on the revenues that we get, even though our revenues have increased, the operational expenditure of government, including salaries and other overheads, is barely covered or swallowed up by the revenue.
“So, we need to borrow to be able to build these projects that will ensure that we’re able to develop on a sustainable basis.
“Nigeria’s borrowing has been of great concern and has elicited a lot of discussions, but if you look at the total size of the borrowing, it is still within healthy and sustainable limits. As at July 2021, the total borrowing is 23% of GDP.”
This is according to the draft copy of the modified Registration of Telephone Subscribers Regulations published on the commission’s website.
In the modified regulations, Nigeria Communications Commission(NCC) limited telecoms subscribers to only include anyone above the age of 18.
“‘Subscriber’ means a person not below the age of 18 years who subscribes to communications services by purchasing a subscription medium or entering into a subscription contract with a licensee.”
The Licensee refers to ‘a provider of communications services that utilises a subscription medium in the Federal Republic of Nigeria’.
NCC’s Executive Commissioner Stakeholders’ Management, Mr Adeleke Adewolu, gave the opening remark at the event.
He said, “The public inquiry is an avenue that enables the commission develop and review its regulatory instruments by incorporating the comments and suggestions of industry stakeholders.”
During the public inquiry, which was held physically and virtually, key stakeholders, including MTN, urged the commission to revise the age limit.
MTN asked the commission to make the age limit 14 years and above.
The NCC, however, insisted on 18 years and above for anyone who wants to own and register a SIM in Nigeria.
Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, announced this, at the World Teachers’ Day celebration held at Eagle Square, Abuja.
Adamu, whose speech was read by the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, Sonny Echono, said his ministry would collaborate with the state governments to ensure automatic employment for the students on graduation.
He said, “Undergraduate students of B.Ed / B.A. Ed/ BSc. Ed in Public institutions are to receive stipends of N75,000.00 per semester while NCE students will get N50,000.00 as stipends per semester.
“Federal Government should find the modality through which respective states’ governments could provide automatic employment for NCE graduates at Basic Education level.”
Buhari said this in Addis Ababa during a bilateral meeting with President Salva Kiir of South Sudan.
The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, disclosed this in a statement titled ‘We will always extend a helping hand to South Sudan, President Buhari says’.
The President who assured the full support of Nigeria to all efforts to bring long-term stability and prosperity to the continent said, ‘‘Nigeria will contribute its quota as much as possible to the development of South Sudan. Take us into confidence and ask us what we can do.”
Stressing the need for cooperation among developing countries, Buhari said with investments in education, improved economy, and healthcare, things will surely improve.
All things being equal, President Muhammadu Buhari, has been scheduled to present the 2022 budget proposal before the National Assembly this Thursday.
This, however, would be after he would have presented same to the Federal Executive Council (FEC) tomorrow, a source in the presidency told THISDAY last night.
According to the source, finishing touches were being put to the budget ahead of the Thursday presentation at the federal legislature.
According to a source declined to hint at the possible content of the budget as it were, the federal government had sometime in August this year, said the ministries of works and housing; finance, budget and national planning; and defence would get the highest capital allocations in the 2022 budget.
The President, who will depart Abuja for the Ethiopian capital on Sunday, is scheduled to deliver a goodwill message at the inauguration ceremony, after which he will attend a state banquet in honour of visiting Heads of State and Government, Special Adviser to the President (Media & Publicity), Femi Adesina, said in a Press statement.
President Buhari will be accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ambassador Ahmed Rufai Abubakar.
He is expected back in Abuja on Tuesday.
In his earlier congratulatory message to the Prime Minister, President Buhari had assured that Nigeria will continue to support the unity and territorial well-being of Ethiopia and all African States.
‘‘On behalf of the Nigerian people, I send you and the people of Ethiopia our well wishes for your courage and commitment to the democratic process and urge you to continue with the good policies of your government that endeared you to the people,’’ the President said in his congratulatory message to the Prime Minister.
All Progressives Congress chieftain, Bola Tinubu said this while addressing members of the House of Representatives northern caucus that visited him in London.
Addressing the gathering, Tinubu who was dressed in kaftan and a red cap said, “Because of God and people like you, I am well. It is just the physio (physiotherapy) that is gruesome.”
Since his departure, Tinubu’s London home has become a Mecca of sorts as he has been visited by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.); Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila; Governors Abdullahi Ganduje (Kano), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Rotimi Akeredolu (Ondo), and Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti).
His prolonged stay abroad has, however, drawn criticism from a section of Nigerians who believe he ought to have stayed in the country to receive treatment.
