Residents doctors fault FG, say it failed to implement agreement The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors has insisted on its plan to begin a nationwide strike on Thursday, saying the Federal Government was not sincere in implementing agreements.
According to the statement, President Buhari is expected back in the country in the second week of April.
The statement reads: “President Muhammadu Buhari proceeds to London, the United Kingdom, Tuesday March 30, 2021, for a routine medical check-up.
“The President meets with Security Chiefs first in the morning, after which he embarks on the journey.
“He is due back in the country during the second week of April, 2021.”
THE Federal Government has warned that henceforth it would no longer allow trainee doctors on one year internship programme in hospitals across the country to participate in industrial action .
The Chairman of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria , Prof . Abba Hassan , sounded the warning in Abuja during the swearing – in of 1 , 021 foreign trained medical and dental graduates .
He said , “ By law , they are not supposed to join any association until they are fully registered as doctors . For now, they are on probation and they should not belong to any union or join in strike .
“ Anybody who is caught will be brought before the council and if found guilty , will be sanctioned . The person may be barred from practice . ”
Hassan said one of the implications of the transfer of supervisory role to the MDCN was that it would instil more discipline and ensure that doctors on internship would no longer be compelled to join others in the incessant industrial action thereby deviating from the set objectives of the programme .
“ They must commit themselves fully to pay attention to their seniors who are training them. This is not the era of people going into private practice . If they spend their time understudying their seniors very well , by the time they finish the 12 months internship, they will be very good doctors , ” he said .
The Oyo State Government has announced that there would be total restriction of human and vehicular movements during the monthly environmental sanitation exercise holding on Saturday.
The restriction of movement , according to a statement signed and made available to journalists by the Commissioner, Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, Dr . Abdulateef Oyeleke , would , however , not affect those on essential duties , including health workers , journalists , and the law enforcement agents.
The statement , which indicated that the exercise would hold between 6 am and 9 am on Saturday, warned against the violation of the environmental sanitation law as deviants would face severe penalties .
It read , “ There shall be total restriction of both vehicular and human movement except for those on essential duties . ”
It directs chairmen of Local Government and Local Council Development Areas in the state to ensure compliance in their respective domains as it is expected that citizens utilize the period to clean their surroundings .
The release further directs all directors of Environmental Health Services in the 33 Local Governments and 35 Local Council Development Areas within the state to monitor the exercise as a matter of duty .
The statement , therefore , enjoined shop owners , market men and women , security operatives, Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria , Tricycle Owners and Operators Association of Nigeria , the Association of Commercial Motorcycle Riders of Nigeria and the general public to comply with this directive .
The Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria has demanded an upward review of the retirement age of health workers from 60 to 65 .
The union stated that the approval of the new retirement age of 65 for teachers by the Federal Government should also be extended to the health personnel in the country.
The MHWUN President , Dr Biobelemonye Josiah , said this at the 9 th quadrennial state delegates conference 2021 which held in Abuja .
Josiah , who was represented by the union ’ s deputy president , Kabir Minjibir , also re – echoed his call for the implementation of the upward review of the Consolidated Health Salary Structure for health workers as done for the medical doctors .
The MHWUN President said , “ For the same reasons that informed government ’ s timely approval of a new retirement age for teachers , an extension of such gesture to health professionals shall ensure the harnessing of their experience .
“ Our demand for the review of our retirement age from 60 to 65 cannot therefore be better appreciated than the experience in the current circumstances. ”
